Orpheus in the Metro
By Julio Cortazar
This is a one-man play based on a short story by Julio Cortazar, “Manuscript found in a pocket.”
The hero, eccentric and anonymous, spends entire days in the Paris metro in a quest for love. His loneliness and his talent for everything having to do with numbers and statistical odds cause him to invent a strange game, the purpose of which is to meet the one woman destined for him…
Multimedia, chalk, and human emotions are all used in the course of the show.
The number of spectators at the show is limited to that of passengers in a metro car.
The show premiered in April 2009 within the framework of Teatronetto Festival. In June 2009 it participated at the festival of solo theater performances in Macedonia, where it won the Audience’s Favorite prize. In 2010 the show is scheduled to participate in the Theater Festival in Kiel, Germany.
